DMCA Copyright Policy
This site respects copyright, and it also tries to be realistic about the material it publishes.
Most pickup lines are folk writing with no traceable author. Nobody owns the classic ones and we certainly do not claim to. But some lines genuinely do have a writer, and our own write-ups and explanations are our own work. This page covers both directions: how to tell us something of yours appears here, and what happens if we believe something of ours has been copied.
Our Position on This Material
We Do Not Claim Ownership of the Lines Themselves
Pickup lines circulate. They pass from person to person, change slightly each time, and arrive with no origin attached. Lines of that kind are common property, we have organised rather than created them, and we make no exclusive claim over them.
We Do Claim Our Own Writing
The category write-ups, explanations, page structure, and original material written for this site are protected by copyright and belong to the operators of pickup-lines.org.
Submitted Lines Belong to Whoever Wrote Them
Where a reader sends in a line they wrote and asks for credit, we credit them. They keep their rights in it, and they can ask for it to be taken down at any time.
The Easy Route First
Before the formal process below, there is a simpler path that handles most situations.
If a Line Here Is Yours
Email us, say which line and what you want, and it is done. We will credit you with a link if you want credit, or remove the line entirely if you would rather. You do not need to prove authorship, swear anything, or use any particular wording.
This is the request we handle fastest, usually the same day we read it.
If a Page Mentions You
If an example, screenshot, or line on this site names you, uses your handle, or quotes something you said, write to us and we will remove it. No copyright claim needed and no explanation required beyond telling us where it is.
Why We Offer This
The formal notice process below exists because the law provides it, and anybody who wants to use it is entitled to. But requiring a sworn legal notice before removing somebody’s own joke from a humour site would be absurd, so we do not.
Filing a Formal DMCA Notice
If you prefer the statutory route, or if you are acting for a rights holder, here is what a valid notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. section 512(c), must contain.
Required Elements
A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorised to act on their behalf.
Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed, or a representative list if there are several.
Identification of the material you claim is infringing, specific enough for us to locate it. The full URL of the page, plus a quotation of the exact text or a description of the image, is what makes this workable.
Your contact information: name, postal address, telephone number, and email address.
A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
A statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on the owner’s behalf.
Where to Send It

Email is faster and gives both of us a record. Post is accepted.
Please Be Specific
A notice saying our site infringes your work, with no URL and no identification of the material, cannot be acted on. We are not being obstructive. We simply cannot find an unspecified item on a site with many pages of short text.
What Happens When We Receive a Notice
We Read It and We Act Quickly
Valid notices are processed expeditiously. The usual window is one to three business days from the point we read the message.
Removal
Material identified in a valid notice is removed or disabled. We do not wait for a counter-notice before acting, and we do not require the complainant to litigate first.
Notification
Where submitted material is involved and we have contact details for the person who sent it, we tell them what was removed and why, and we pass on a copy of the notice so they can respond if they wish.
Records
We keep notices and the action taken on each. Repeat infringement by anyone submitting material to this site results in their submissions being refused.
Filing a Counter-Notice
If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notice under 17 U.S.C. section 512(g).
Required Elements
Your physical or electronic signature.
Identification of the material that was removed and the location where it appeared before removal.
A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
Your name, address, and telephone number, together with a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located, or, if your address is outside the United States, for any judicial district in which this site may be found, and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice.
What Follows
A counter-notice is forwarded to the original complainant. If they do not notify us within ten to fourteen business days that they have filed a court action seeking to restrain the activity, the material may be restored.
A Serious Warning
Both notices and counter-notices are sworn statements. Knowingly making a material misrepresentation in either can make you liable for damages, including costs and legal fees, under 17 U.S.C. section 512(f). If you are unsure whether you hold rights in something, get advice before filing rather than after.
If You Believe Your Work Was Copied From Here
What Is Protectable
Our original write-ups, explanations, and page structure are our work. If those have been reproduced elsewhere, we may act on it.
What Is Not
An individual pickup line that was circulating long before this site existed is not something we will claim as ours, and we will not send a notice asserting rights we do not hold. We think that distinction matters, and it cuts both ways: it is also the reason we will not simply accept a claim over a line that is obviously folk material.
Images and Screenshots
Where Our Images Come From
Illustrations and graphics used on pickup-lines.org are either produced for this site or licensed from stock sources under terms that permit commercial use.
If an Image Is Yours
If you own an image that appears here and you did not license it to us, write to us with the page URL and we will take it down. If it turns out we licensed it in good faith from a source that had no right to sell it, we will still remove it, and we would appreciate knowing where the licence came from so we can stop using that source.
Platform Screenshots
Where a screenshot of an app or website appears for illustration, it is used for reference and commentary. The underlying interface and branding belong to whoever owns the platform, and we claim nothing in it.
Trademarks
Brand, app, platform, and company names mentioned on this site remain the property of their respective owners. They are used for reference only, and we claim no affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from any of them.
If you believe a trademark has been used improperly here, write to the address above and we will look at it.
Other Removal Requests
Not everything is a copyright matter, and these are handled too.
Content About You
A line, example, or reference that names you, or that quotes something you said, will be removed on request without any copyright claim.
Something Offensive
If a line on this site targets somebody’s race, religion, body, disability, or identity, it should not be here. Point us at it and we will remove it rather than defending it because it was already published.
Corrections
A misattribution, a line credited to the wrong person, or a wrong link: tell us and we will fix it.
